Wrestler Tommy Dreamer was reportedly on an indefinite suspension from Impact Wrestling after being mentioned in Vice’s documentary. the dark side of the ring.
Pro Wrestling Insider reports that Dreamer was asked to leave “with immediate effect” in this week’s recording in Tennessee after Dreamer made remarks “inconsistent” with the company’s core values. Impact Wrestling has not yet responded to TVLine’s request for comment.
Thursday’s episode the dark side of the ring The infamous “Plane Ride From Hell” was a nightmare transatlantic flight in 2002, witnessing drunk wrestlers fighting each other on board and harassing crew members on board. It was during this flight that WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair picked one of his famous pranks. According to Dreamer and Hall of Fame inductee Rob Van Dam, Flair only wore a wrestling jacket and carried his signature struts along the airplane aisles as he joked to fellow wrestlers that he whirled his penis like a helicopter.
Van Dam said in the episode, “It’s what men want to see, that’s what makes them laugh.”
Flight attendant Heidi Doyle claimed that Flair went into the galley at the back of the plane to buy a Coke and forced her to touch her genitals. “I couldn’t move. I couldn’t get away from him.” “He was spinning around his genitals and he wanted me to touch him… He took my hand and put it on top of it.”
Van Dam confirmed Doyle’s story in the episode.
Dreamer defends Flair, saying, “Ric Flair is not going to force anything sexual on anyone. He’s just showin’, stylish and with propylin [doing the] It’s a Ric Flair story that will make everyone laugh, but someone will definitely be offended.”
Ric Flair has previously denied Doyle’s allegations. In 2004, Doyle and a second crew member sued several wrestlers, including WWE and Flair, for assault and beating, the willful misappropriation of emotional distress, and false imprisonment. Both parties eventually came out of court.
“If she felt that way,” Dreamer said in the episode about the settlement, she shouldn’t have paid the bills, went to the extreme of the law and actually didn’t put this horrendous person in jail.
“It sounds like you’re trying to portray someone as a sex offender, but you’re not,” Dreamer said without mentioning Doyle. It’s a joke. Just kidding and it’s 1,000% inappropriate today… I’m hanging out with Ric Flair. I have never seen him impose his will on anyone.”
Doyle argued that Flair was wrong. “I don’t think he intended to rape me, but what he did was wrong,” she said. “Wrong. And that night, I slept thinking I had returned from a wrestling trip in Europe, and I may have had a headache from drinking too much cocktail on the plane. Still, I couldn’t sleep that night.”
“The journey to work, the journey to earn money to support our daughter, is a memory that we will cherish forever. Like seeing a naked man and having to live with the fact that he has to lick his face [she alleged that WWE Hall of Famer Scott Hall also harassed her on the flight] I was there to make sure he arrived safely from point A to point B and I fell asleep thinking they had arrived home safely,” he added.
