After the company released a teaser earlier this month, the anticipated One UI 4 beta is now available for download and installation on Samsung Galaxy S21, S21 Plus, and S21 Ultra devices. One UI 4 is based on Android 12, which hasn’t been released yet. Samsung says the new operating system offers improved customization and privacy options.

Currently, a beta program is available for the S21 series. However, more devices are expected soon, including the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3. The beta program is available in China, India, Germany, Poland, Korea, UK and USA. Release date and time may vary by market, but Samsung says the beta will be available on September 14th.

Since One UI is based on Android 12, this time we put a lot of emphasis on customization and themes. Users are provided with “rich theme options” that “customize the look and functionality of the device and provide tools to configure the home screen, icons, notifications, wallpapers, and more.”

Just like Google did with Android 12, One UI 4 offers redesigned widgets with extensive customization options. In addition to themes, One UI 4 also offers “enhanced privacy and protection”. Like iOS, Samsung now displays an indicator when the phone’s camera and microphone are in use. There is also an improved permission option to view permission history for the last 7 days instead of the last 24 hours.

One UI 4 is currently only in beta. Samsung has already painted Android 12 in One UI colors, so the final version of One UI 4 shouldn’t be too far away.

Before proceeding and installing One UI 4 on Samsung phones, the software is currently only in beta and may be unstable. It’s a good idea to back up what’s important in case something goes wrong.

The One UI 4 beta is available regardless of which version of S21 you are using (Exynos or Snapdragon), whether locked by your carrier or not. To download and install One UI 4 Beta on your compatible Samsung smartphone, follow these steps:

  • Launch the Samsung Members app. If you do not have the membership app, go to this link to download and install it.
  • Wait for the One UI 4 beta banner to appear. If you don’t see the banner, check the “Announcements” section.
  • Tap the banner.
  • Scroll down and hit the sign up button.
  • Once registration is complete, open your phone’s Settings app.
  • Scroll down and select Software Update, then select Download and Install.
  • One UI 4 based on Android 12 should start downloading on S21 devices.

If the version is not available immediately after registering for the beta program, please wait a moment and try again. Samsung is collecting feedback from One UI 4 beta program participants to improve the software before releasing it to users later this year.
